Snow geese winter in the Skagit Valley in large numbers. However, this bird was found at the Montlake Fill in Seattle, associating with a flock of more widespread Canada Geese.

These rabbits were abundant on Lopez Island in the San Juans, Washington in June of 2003. This one was in the parking area at Spencer Spit State Park.

A Canada Goose family, at the Montlake Fill in Seattle, WA, photographed in May of 2003. These geese can be found in grasslands and farmland as well as urban parks.

Glaucous Gull

An unusual bird for the area, this juvenile Glaucous Gull was spotted in a field near an adult, just outside Bow, WA in December of 1999. The farmland in the Skagit valley is a popular spot for a variety of other types of gulls.

Another unusual bird for the area, this one spotted in the Delta area of BC, just south of Vancouver, in January of 2001.

These are the most abundant gull of western Washington. This one, in winter plumage, was photographed near Peace Arch State Park in Blaine, WA.

Another abundant gull of both sides of the Cascades. This one was photographed in a small park on the west side of Lake Washington in Seattle.

Another very common gull in grasslands on both sides of the mountains. This was photographed in the same vicinity as the California gull above.
