Green Heron
Green Herons can be found in marshlands throughout the
region. This heron was photographed in Port Aransas, TX in December of 2001.

Black-crowned Night Heron
These herons can be found in parts of the PNW, such as
at Reifel refuge in BC, and in the Skagit Valley in Washington. This one was
photographed in a pond just south of New Orleans, LA in April of 2001.

Brown Pelican
Brown Pelicans are regular along the Pacific Coast,
usually as far north as Ocean Shores, WA. This pelican was photographed in
Corpus Christi, TX in December of 2001.

White Pelican
White Pelicans breed in places in the Pacific
Northwest, particularly in the Columbia Basin. This pelican was photographed in
Rockport, TX in December of 2001.

Western Scrub-Jay
This Scrub Jay was photographed in Carmel, CA in June
of 1999. In the PNW, they are found as far north as extreme southwestern
Washington state.

Spotted Sandpiper
Spotted Sandpipers can be found along rivers in this
area. This bird was seen in Malibu, CA in December of 1995.

Killdeer
Probably the most common and widespread shorebird in
the area, this Killdeer was photographed at Audobon NWR in central North Dakota
in July of 1998.

Mourning Dove
Mourning doves are very common east of the Cascades,
but can also be found occasionally in farmland along the west coast. This one
was photographed at the San Francisco Airport.

Yellow-rumped Warbler
These warblers are fairly common in the Northwest in
winter, and can be abundant during migration in the late spring and early fall.
This female was photographed in Malibu, CA in December of 1995.
